Casa Grande de Juncais is a classified granite manor house of the XVI century, with crest of the Barata Veloso family - its only owners until the present days.
It was the residence of D. Maria do Patrocínio Barata Veloso (daughter of António Veloso de Aragão Costa e Abreu and Maria Benedita Vasconcelos e Sá), married to Jerónimo Frederico de Moraes Cerveira, great grandparents of the actual owner.
Founding house of the Village of Juncais, it had the priviled of "asylum", (meanning that nobody that took refuge inside its walls could be arrested) and to its owners were brought for trial the quarrels between village people.
The house accupies one whole side of the main village square, and against its walls rest the old people of the village in sunny winter days. In the middle of the square - that is still the village meeting place - there is a fountain which is the gathering point for shepherds bringing their flocks to drink from the neighbouring fields at the end of the day.
